These seeds are from Akebia quinata, also known as, Akebia, Chocolate vine, and Fiveleaf Akebia. This vine likes to live in sun to partial shade. The vine can grow up to about 20 feet long and has deep maroon, red, purple, and burgundy blossoms which are fragrant and on display during the middle of the summer. The leaves can be used to brew a tea, and the fruit is normally mixed with lemon juice to enhance the flavor. The skin of the fruit is usually fried and eaten and the young shoots can be pickled or used in salads. The stems are peeled and then used to make baskets. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 8.
