This is Tamarindus indica, also known as Tamarind Tree. This tree can be used as an ornamental addition to any yard and it can also be used as a food source. The fruit from this tree is used extensively around the world. It is one of the ingredients in Worcestershire sauce. Tamarind fruit is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. This tree likes to live in a spot where it can get full sun. It attracts all sorts of birds, bees, and butterflies. The Tamarind tree is a larval host plant for the Tawny Rajah, Black Rajah, Plain Tawny Rajah, Satyr Emperor, and Common Nawab butterflies. The flowers are considered an excellent source of nectar for honeybees in South India. People have used the Tamarindus indica tree as a specimen to fashion a bonsai tree. USDA Hardiness Zones 9b to 11.
